Mildred Yvonne Bauer, 84, died peacefully in her sleep at Whitfield Nursing Home in Corinth, Mississippi on September 27, 2021. A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org in her memory.
Yvonne was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1936 and moved with her parents to Atlanta in 1948. She graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1955. She attended secretarial school.
Even though he was three hours late for their blind date, she knew that Frederick Page Bauer was the man of her dreams. They married on June 16, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia. They and their children moved to Mendenhall, Mississippi, in 1965 where they were members of First Baptist Church of Mendenhall. Yvonne loved children and worked in the First Baptist Children’s Daycare from 1979 until her retirement in the late 1990s. Yvonne and Fred moved to Corinth, Mississippi, in 2014 in order to be nearer their family. Her many hobbies included sewing, knitting, gardening, drawing and photography.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Page Bauer; infant son, David Michael Bauer; father, Woodrow H. Mitchem, Sr.; mother, Runelle (Boss) Mitchem Perry; and sisters, Tamra Lynn Mitchem and Susan Elizabeth Mitchem.
Family who remain to celebrate her life are daughter, Susan Yvonne Bauer Lee (Tim) of Knoxville, TN; son, Frederick Scott Bauer (Beth) of Corinth, MS; grandsons, Evan Scott Bauer (Florence) of Gluckstadt, MS and David Jeffrey Bauer of Oxford, MS; great-grandson, Jackson Scott Bauer; and brother Woodrow H. “Sonny” Mitchem, Jr. (Karen) of Jacksonville, FL.
