A Celebration of Life Service for Richard "Dick" LeRoy Wood is set for 2:00 pm Monday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Don Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the Henry Cemetery. Family and Friends Gathering will be Monday from 12:00 pm to service time at the church.
Dick, 86, passed away in his sleep on Friday, July 19th, 2024 in Mobile, AL. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends Dick was born in Albion, Michigan on December 7th, 1938. After high school and some college, he enlisted in the US Navy where he was stationed on the USS Severn. After his service, he enrolled in Murray State University in Kentucky, earning a degree in Accounting. This is where he met his future wife, Judy Wallace.
Dick and Judy were married on September 3rd, 1965. They had their first child, Stephanie, in Albion, MI, in 1969. They soon moved to Atlanta, GA, where their second child, Stephen, was born, in 1972. Wanting to raise kids in a small town, the family moved to Corinth, MS in 1974. Dick worked for Intex Plastics until his retirement in 2004.
Dick loved his church and the small town of Corinth. He served as both a Deacon and an Elder for First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Dick was active with the Corinth Rotary club and was a member of The Alliance of Corinth. He enjoyed grilling, while drinking a cold beer and listening to country music. His grilled chicken, using a secret family recipe, was a staple for Sunday dinner. Dick’s light heartedness and sense of humor insured that his kids grew up appreciating jokes and being able to take one.
During retirement, Dick and Judy enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren, Rhianna and Avery. They had recently moved to Mobile, AL to be close to family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made to Mended Hearts (www.mendedhearts.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (www.alzfdn.org).
