Funeral Services celebrating the life of Nelson Potts will be 11 am Friday March 28,2025 at McPeters Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 5pm until 8pm on Thursday and 10am until Friday at the funeral home. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Farmington Baptist Church Cemetery.
William Nelson Potts, a devoted family man, hard-working entrepreneur, and friend to many, passed away on March 25, 2025, at the age of 85. Known for his generous spirit and gregarious nature, he touched countless lives with his kindness and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Born on September 23, 1939, in Corinth, Mississippi, Nelson’s passion for life started early. As a teenager, he played in a band during high school, sparking a lifelong love for music. He later channeled his energy into business, becoming a respected small businessman. Over the years, he built a successful excavating business, worked in pipeline construction, owned a country store, and thrived as a used car wholesaler. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in every endeavor he pursued.
A proud 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason, Nelson held the principles of brotherhood, service, and integrity in high regard. His generosity knew no bounds—whether helping a friend in need or supporting his community, he never hesitated to lend a hand. His warmth, humor, and larger-than-life personality made him a cherished presence at every gathering. He was a member of the Baptist faith, attending Brigman Hill and Farmington Baptist Churches for his entire life.
Nelson is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Lois Juanell Potts; daughters, Rita Parks (Mike) of Corinth, Mississippi, Shannon Hardwick (Kelly) of Brandon, Mississippi; grandchildren, Hannah Christian (Trey) of Corinth, Mississippi, John William Hardwick of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and Olivia Hardwick of Buckhead, Georgia; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Parks Mitchell and Reese Christian. He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Hunt (Gerald), of Germantown, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Earvel and Ruby Potts, and his brother, Gary Potts.
Pallbearers include John William Hardwick, Trey Christian, Junior Gray, Todd Carroll, Johnny Potts, and Shane Gray. Honorary Pallbearers include Harold Little, Scotty Little, Zane Elliott, Peanut Rhodes, and Jerry Fowler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in his memory.
Nelson’s legacy of hard work, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
