Funeral services for Ms. Letha Mae (Letson) Mitchell of Corinth, will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at four o’clock in the afternoon at Kossuth Baptist Church with interment to follow at Forest Memorial Park.
Ms. Mitchell died on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at her home in Corinth, at the age of 99, just 22 days short of her 100th birthday. She was born on Friday, October 3, 1913 in Courtland, AL to the late Oley & Rene Reeves Letson. Ms. Mitchell was united in marriage to Lionel D. Mitchell, Sr., on December 26, 1933. Mr. Mitchell preceded her in death on January 26, 1985, after having celebrated over 50 years together.
Ms. Letha Mae had been a member of Kossuth Baptist Church for over fifty years, where she was a very proud member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was a wonderful mother who was sacrificially dedicated to her family, always putting them before herself. Ms. Mitchell enjoyed studying poetry, keeping busy in the garden, and was an exceptionally good cook. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other members of her extended family.
Ms. Letha Mae Mitchell is survived by her three daughters, Joan Morton and husband W.C. of Corinth, Barbara Greenhaw of Waverly, OH, and Jane Robbins and Husband Eddie of Corinth; four sons, Lionel D. Mitchell, Jr., Gary D. Mitchell and wife Linda, Larry B. Mitchell and wife Barbara, and Dale C. Mitchell, all of Corinth; one brother, Bob Letson and wife Dale of Blue Springs, MS; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ms. Mitchell was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Elaine Mitchell, a granddaughter, Marla Beth Mitchell-Shettles, a sister, Venus (Letson) Campbell, and seven brothers, Clarence, Edgar, Elmer, Lawyard, Frank, Wayne, and Dan Letson.
