It is with a profound sense of loss and enduring love that we announce the passing of the Honorable Judge John C. Ross, Jr. Mr. Ross departed this world on August 19, 2024, at The University Of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Judge Ross was born September 11, 1942 to the late John Sr. and Mary Claire Tuxford Ross.
John's journey was one of service, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his family and the law. His parents nurturing and guidance at home along with his education were the foundations of his remarkable character. John graduated from Corinth High School in 1960, followed by his education at The University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi where he received his law degree in 1968. John's life was marked by a profound faith and service to his church and community. He was a faithful, lifetime member, and past Chairman of the Council member and Sunday School Teacher for First Methodist Church in Corinth, Mississippi.
Mr. Ross' leadership and compassion touched many lives. Judge wore many hats and was a pillar for his community as a beacon for justice. He held his own practice from 1968 until 1990; He was a longtime member of The Alliance, formally the Chamber of Commerce where he was elected President in 1990; John served as an acting Judge for the Chancery Court, the Justice Court, and the Youth Court all in Alcorn County. He served as the Municipal Court Judge for the City of Farmington. Mr. Ross was also a member of the Board of Director for the Crossroads Museum as well as the former President and Board of Trustees member for the Jacinto Foundation. John served as the administrator for Henry Cemetery from 1978 until his passing.
Judge Ross' life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of community. He was a man who gave selflessly, loved deeply, and thought profoundly. His absence will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. The void left by John's departure can never be filled, but the memories of his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering integrity will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched. As we bid farewell to the Honorable Judge John C. Ross, Jr., we take solace in knowing that his was a life well-lived, a path well-trodden, and a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Ross is survived by one sister, Anne Caver (Bill); one niece, Maggie Christopher (Josh); one nephew, Walker Caver (Madison); 8 great nieces and nephews; as well as host of extended family and friends.
There will be an informal gathering of family and friends held on Friday October 18, 2024 at the CARE Honor Garden and Depot beginning at two o'clock in the afternoon in downtown Corinth, Mississippi.
The family has entrusted the care for the services to McPeters Funeral Directors in Corinth, Mississippi.
