Celebration of life with Military Honors for Gilbert Durell Sherard are set for 11:00 A.M. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Harold King and Bro. Seth Kirkland officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
Gilbert died May 12, 2015 at his residence. He was born February 24, 1930 in Kossuth to the late B.F. and Ethel Sherard. Gilbert was a graduate of Alcorn Agriculture High School (Kossuth High School) then attended Northeast MS Community College. Gilbert was called upon to serve his country during the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army. He retired as School Examiner for the State of MS Audit Dept. after 25 years, was a member of West Corinth Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and having taught Sunday School for over 25 years. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Alton Sherard and sister Hilda Brawner.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Martha Moore Sherard, sons Benny (Kathy) Sherard, Keith (Patti) Sherard, brother Leon Sherard, sisters Agnes Glisson, Ann Allen, Betty Rhodes, grandchildren Brandie (Tony) Lowrey, Linsey (Kristen Berlin) Sherard, Katelyn Sherard, Bethany (Tory) Riley, great grandchildren Claudia Lowrey, Eli and Jack Sherard, Cason Riley, special friends Carolyn James, brother-in-laws Moon Mullins and Ronald Moore, special niece Sherry (Rod) Oakman. Host of other family and friends.
Family will receive friends Thursday 6 to 8 and from 10 to service time Friday at the funeral home.
