Frederick Page Bauer, 84 died at his home in the presence of his family on August 18, 2017 following a brief illness.
Fred was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Rome, Georgia attending Rome High School. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1956 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity.
Three hours late for their blind date he would eventually marry Mildred Yvonne Mitchem on June 16, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia. They eventually moved to Mendenhall, Mississippi, in 1965 and were members of First Baptist Church. Fred was employed by Universal Manufacturing (later Magnatek) as director of quality control retiring after 30 years of service. He holds numerous patents for ideas to improve efficiency and production in the process of manufacturing ballasts for fluorescent lighting.
In his spare time he enjoyed teaching computer science to adults at the Simpson County Vo-Tech Center, tutoring teenagers in math and science, as well as volunteering as a voting precinct worker. In retirement he became a failure analysis expert witness for cases involving fluorescent light ballasts.
Throughout the years, Fred was a ham radio enthusiast, talking to other ham operators all over the world. His collection of QSL cards testify to the number of people with whom he made contact over the years and was a source of great pride. His first call sign was K4HBJ and later King-Baker-5-Red-Headed-Duck. Fred and Yvonne moved to Corinth, Mississippi in 2014 in order to be near their son and family.
Fred was preceded in death by his father Carl Albert Bauer, Sr., mother Rita Mull Bauer, infant son David Michael Bauer, sister Beverly Bauer-King, brother Carl A. Bauer, Jr. and nephew Franklin Page Bauer.
Family who remain to celebrate his life are his loving wife, Yvonne Bauer of Corinth, MS, daughter Susan Bauer Lee (Tim) of Knoxville, TN, son Frederick Scott Bauer (Beth) of Corinth, MS, grandsons Evan Scott Bauer of Gluckstadt, MS and David Jeffrey Bauer (Marla) of Oxford, MS, nephew Carl Albert Bauer, III (Connie) of Buena Vista, CO, and niece Mary Elizabeth Bauer (Andy) of Port St. Joe, FL.
Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00p.m Saturday August 26, 2017 in the Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Corinth, MS. A funeral service celebrating Fred’s life will follow at 2:30p.m.
