Kevin Bruce Owens

Mr. Kevin Owens passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2021 in Oakland Park, Florida at the age of 53. Kevin is survived by his parents Merle and Mary Kay Owens of Coral Springs, Florida, his sisters Joya Owens of Orofino, Idaho, Jennifer Hardy of Gainesville, Florida, his brother and sister in law Jeff and Mary Beth Mohr of Gainesville, Florida, his uncle and aunts Jack Owens, Barbara Owens and Barbara Betcher, his cousins Jason Owens and Jennifer Ameerally, his nephew Benjamin DeVries, and his nieces, Jessica DeVries, Shelby DeVries and Kayleigh Mohr. He is preceded in death by his biological mother Noel Barclay Pieklo of Jacksonville, Florida.

Kevin was born on March 1, 1968 in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to south Florida as a young boy with his father Merle and sister Joya. A few years later, when his father married Mary Kay, Kevin became a son to Mary Kay and a brother to Jeff and Jennifer. In his younger years, Kevin worked several different jobs before he found his passion as a tattoo artist. Kevin was one of the original founders and operators of Cool Cat Tattoo in Oakland Park, Florida. He enjoyed creating and drawing tattoos, he was a talented artist and provided many customers with tattoos that are true works of art.

While Kevin was a tough guy on the outside, he was very much kindhearted and loving. He was free spirited and lived life the way he wanted to live it. He was loved very much by family and friends, as well as his beloved dogs Ilio and Bane. His infectious smile could light up a room, he could make you laugh and want to take a walk on the wild side, even if for just a minute with him. Kevin could often be found celebrating with friends, sharing the holidays with family, playing with his dogs or giving someone a really great tattoo. While it is heartbreakingly difficult to say goodbye to our son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend, our family believes Kevin is now in God’s arms and free of any pain. He will forever be remembered and missed by those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Kevin’s life is scheduled for July 31st from 5pm to 8pm, at Kraeer Funeral Home located at 1655 University Drive Coral Springs, FL 33071, with a prayer service starting at 7pm. Father Guy Fenger of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Coral Springs will guide the prayer service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kevin’s life.
