Gordon is survived by his sister, Patricia Moore. He is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Fitzgerald Moore, Los Angeles, CA, his sister, Kathleen Rosetta Gordon (nee Moore), Toronto, ON, and his parents Edward Fitzgerald & Ismay Dorothy Moore, Guyana.
Gordon B. Moore was born on May 22, 1949, in Georgetown, Guyana. He graduated from Queen’s College and apprenticed in accounting with the firm Thomas, Stull, Dias and Company in Guyana. He then moved to London, UK where started his career in public accounting. He remained there for several years before moving to the management internal audit departments with the Caribbean Development Bank, Barbados and Polysar Limited of Sarnia, Canada. After this, he held financial controlling positions for Polysar Rubber in Fribourg, Switzerland and in Toronto, Canada. He ended his career in industry as the Vice President Internal Audit for Bayer Corporation.
In the 1993 M.S. Bachelor fundraising auction, Gordon “Swiss Chocolate Delight” came out onto stage throwing chocolate kisses and blowing his Saxophone. He raised the most money of any bachelor at that auction.
He married Anne LaForte in 1994. Over the next two years, the couple welcomed 2 children into their home and Gordon set about teaching them how to live. From horseback riding to skiing to ice skating to snowboarding and even how to change a tire, Gordon wanted his children to be prepared for life. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, loving, humble, and “never wrong” father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and made sacrifices for them to do so.
Gordon was an accomplished pianist, saxophone player, father, and athlete. Two nights before he passed he played Jazz piano and sang at an open mic. He was an avid dancer and won the Catholic Sister of Rochester Valentine’s Dance Competition. He then traded the first prize for the second prize because he didn’t need tickets to the ice hockey game. He had an extensive wine cellar. When moving from Toronto to Pittsburgh, he labeled them as “Kitchen Liquids.”
Gordon was a dedicated and generous individual who loved Pickleball and Joker and would do anything to get people to play with him. He was also an avid bowler and salsa dancer. The morning of his transitioning, he played pickleball for several hours. In his later years he also picked up bowling and showed what a fast learner he is. He was passionate about his mangos and golden apples and would pack them up and ship them to family members. He often volunteered with the Brothers Brother foundation and served on their board for many years.
At his new home in Florida where he lived for a few months, he loved the fruit trees in his yard - the mangoes and golden apples - and would pack them up and ship them to family members and friends across North America.
Gordon was truly loved and will be sorely and perpetually missed. Ma he rest in perfect peace & power. Condolences, photos, videos, and stories can be sent to shorturl.at/kFGVY .
