Roy was born to Elmer and Patricia Bodo on the northwest side of Chicago and they resided on Kolin Ave. and Lemoyne. Lifetime friendships and memories were created on those streets as Roy and his neighborhood friends formed a club known as the Kolin Comets. They played sports, went to Riverview, and celebrated multiple life events together.
He joined the Army Reserves with his tight-knit crew of friends and created even more memories as they traveled to the Carolinas and various other locations. Roy assisted in the Mess Hall with his close friends where they cooked for the troops.
Roy followed in his father’s footsteps in many ways. He loved to fish and hunt – he also joined the Pipefitters Local 597. Like his father, he strived to be the best at whatever he did. If you’ve fished with him, you know you were getting an education while you were in the boat. His apprentices in Pipefitting felt the same way. They learned something new every time they worked with him.
He married Elizabeth Kesman on October 12, 1968. They had two beautiful children, Joleen (John Padgett) and Craig (Kelly Marks). They adored them and especially their granddaughter, Laken.
Once Roy and Betty retired, they split their time between their dream home they built in Minocqua, WI and Deerfield Beach, FL. Roy loved that he could fish all year long as the weather was perfect in both locations. He never met a stranger he didn’t connect with. He loved spending time with his family and always had a smile on his face wherever he went. He truly enjoyed life and every moment.
In our Dad’s famous last words “ That’s the scoop!”
