Rev. Carol Ann Smith left a legacy of love, service and wisdom when she transitioned from earthly time to eternity present with her Lord on April 19, 2014. She possessed a winsome personality and was highly esteemed and loved by family, friends and professional associates. An ordained minister of the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana), she complemented her husband Rev. Dr. Reginald G. Smith in the establishment and nurturing of the Church of God of West Broward for twenty seven years. She was instrumental in the founding of Kiddy Academy Preschool and the West Broward Family Empowerment Center, both under church sponsorship. As Director of School Social Work and Attendance for Broward County Public School, Carol brought a strong clinical dimension to her leadership. By helping the State to redefine the qualification of a School Social Worker, Carol succeeded in professionalizing the movement of School Social Work in Florida. Through grants and program development she addressed issues of teen pregnancy, truancy, mental health, substance abuse and poverty As a founding member of the North Broward County Chapter of the Links, Inc., Carol carried secretarial as well as executive membership responsibilities. She was also a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She leaves to continue her legacy, Pastor Reginald Smith – her loving and devoted husband 52 years, son Courtney , his wife Andrea, son Todd, two grandchildren – Courtney Jr. (CJ), and Kendall (Grandma’s hearts), God daughter Janice Campbell, sister/best friends Beverly Hughes-Ruddock and Ruby Ricketts, Aunt Vashti Freeman, several cousins, a host of extended family members and myriad friends. She will live eternally in the hearts of all who knew and valued her. A Celebration of Her Life will start with a vigil at Kraeer Funeral Home, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs FL from 5pm – 8pm on Friday, May 2, 2014. Service of Thanksgiving on May 3, 2014 at 11:00 am at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 400 NW 9Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at 2401 Davie Road, Fort Lauderdale following the service.
