Andy was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, second son of Barbara and Henry Agosta, and very proud of his heritage, as his father was an Italian immigrant. Andy attended local schools, became Cub and Boy Scouts, clearly a proud time in his life as he still had his earned badges.
Andy served his country in the US Army, assigned at Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1969. Thank God he was stationed there 28 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Upon his honorable discharge, Andy put himself through Lawrence Technological University at night and working in the day earning his Bachelor of Science Degree.
Always a sports fan, Andy never lost his love of his Detroit hometown teams –the moaning of the Red Wings, Tigers, Lions and Pistons’ defeats – and taking the bragging rights when victorious. And let’s not overlook his claim to fame, being a first season (and many after) ticket holder for his adopted hockey team, the Florida Panthers.
Andy continued his journey through life, moved to Miami in the 70’s to continue his career and made many friends along his way. An accountant by trade, for fun, Andy went off to auctioneer school in Kansas City, Missouri. Some may say Andy was a mindful speaker, thoughtful of each word, but those who saw Andy in action at his many charity events were astonished at his talent…and his persuasive personality encouraging all to bid higher for charity.
Andy worked as a Controller with Burger King Corporation, Norton Gallery of Art and Museum in West Palm Beach and St. Thomas University. It was during his
time at St. Thomas that, again, he worked during the day and achieved his Master of Business Management at night, receiving this degree in May 1987.
Andy was serious and excellent bridge player and a notorious Jeopardy “wanna-be-contestant” player. Over the years, Andy played tennis, fishing, and lobster hunting in the Keys during the mini-season (Andy always thought this was a major celebration for his birthday).
Andy resided in Miami Shores, Florida for over 15 years, cooking – another great hobby - for his family, friends and neighbors. And then - the retirement bug got into Andy’s ear. His love of golf brought him to the Wynmoor Community in Coconut Creek, Fl. Here Andy found many friends who made him extremely happy and inspired him to co-host the Wednesday night barbeques.
Andy heightened his golf game, achieving two hole-in-ones! He played bridge, sometimes being the only man in the room, and assisted those who needed rides to the airport and check-ups on the snowbirds’ condos.
Andy is survived by his brother, Joseph and sister-in-law, Susie, his niece, Andrea and nephew, Paul, and his former wife, Mary Ross Agosta. In addition, Andy leaves behind great friends Rich, Susan, Dennis, Gerri and many others. Oh, the stories Andy would tell; oh, the times you all had!
Andy’s Mass of Resurrection will be at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Parkland 5980 N. University Dr. Parkland, FL on Friday, January 29th at 2pm.
