William Bruce Jones, Jr. (Billy) of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away on November 24, 2024 in Gatesville. He slipped away peacefully in his sleep nine months to the day after his beloved wife Mary Ellen Jones passed away in Gatesville where they had both spent their last years struggling physically and mentally with various illnesses. Billy adored Mary Ellen and had remained strong in the face of his illness helping care for her as best he could. Once she was gone, his health hastened to get the best of him. Billy never wanted to lose his independence and his family rejoices in the fact he is no longer in pain. While missing him already, they take comfort in the thought of Billy being reunited once again with Mary Ellen in heaven.
Billy was born April 24, 1951 in Tennessee. He grew up the only child of William Bruce Jones, Sr and Lucy Jones. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he briefly joined the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, and a career in textile management, he joined his parents in Florida to work in real estate. There he met and married Mary Ellen and became stepdad to two grown daughters. Eventually, Billy and Mary Ellen both became nurses in Florida and later in Texas. Billy was an avid reader of history, loved the Florida gulf beaches and Tennessee Vols football, and was adored by his children and grandchildren who called him “Superhero Grandpa Billy.”
Billy was preceded in death by his adoring wife of over 42 years Mary Ellen, and his parents William Bruce Jones, Sr. and Lucy Jones, as well as an older sister who died in infancy.
