Services for Verna L. Williams, age 88 of Copperas Cove will be 2:00 on January 15 at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home, Copperas Cove, Texas. Burial will follow at Killeen Memorial Park Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Verna Williams passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at a local nursing facility in Copperas Cove, Texas. Verna was born November 5, 1929 at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas to Henry and Thelma Edwards.
Mrs. Williams graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1947 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the International Club. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1951 where she completed two years of pre-med and two years of Latin. In 1952, she was recruited to the Foreign Services and retired in 1967. She returned to La Paz, Bolivia, in 1969 to serve as the political officer's secretary and later served dignitaries in many other countries. In her later years she served as a substitute Spanish teacher for Copperas Cove Independent School District.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Grace United Methodist Church, Copperas Cove.
She met the love of her life, Warner Williams, in La Paz, Bolivia on December 25, 1965 and they married on October 7, 1967.
Verna is survived by one daughter, Karla Williams, one grandson, Kevin Williams and two granddaughters, Katelyn Blobaum and Liberty Williams, and one great-grandson, Kameron Williams, all of Copperas Cove, Texas. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Edwards and niece, Dena (Jeff) Kidd, all of Mesa, Arizona.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, David and recently, her husband, Warner Williams.
