

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chief Warrant Officer 5 (Retired) Michael D. Howell, a beloved, devoted husband, and dedicated veteran, who left us peacefully on 26 July 2024. He was 71 years old.
Visitation will be on 7 August 2024 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home 211 W Avenue B, Copperas Cove, Tx 76522.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at Central Texas Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on 8 August at 11 a.m. in which Full Military Honors will be rendered.
Born on 01 October 1952 to the late Retired Master Sergeant Donald and Dorothy Howell, Michael dedicated over 29 years of faithful service to the United States Army, rising through the ranks to become a Chief Warrant Officer 5 (CW5). His unwavering commitment to duty and honor earned him numerous awards and accolades, reflecting his exemplary service and leadership.
Michael was married to his beloved wife, Debbie, in 1973 at Stone Mountain, GA., for an incredible 50 years. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and joy, raising seven wonderful children together who provided them 18 grandchildren.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ret. Master Sergeant Donald and Dorothye Howell, his brother Veteran Jack Tidwell, sister in law Barbara Howell, brother in laws David Powell, Veteran Donald Helms, Bob Richards and daughter Susie Avillan.
Michael is survived by wife Deborah and their children; son in law Jose Avillan; Lori and husband Miguel Melendez; Mandy and husband Retired Staff Sergeant Mathen Givens; Michael Howell Jr.; Sergeant Major Christopher and wife JoAnn Howell; Veteran Jeffrey and wife Veteran LaToya Howell; and Jason Howell.
Michael leaves behind 6 siblings; sister in law Evelyn Tidwell; Deborah Richards, Diane Powell, Barbara Jean Crusen, Veteran Ronnie and his wife Sandra Howell, Paula Turner, and Billy Joe Howell. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren: Gabriel and Samantha Avillan; Jacob and Veteran Nathan Sifford; Benicio, Lillian, and Vivian Melendez; Anthony, Leanna, and Faith Howell; Petty Officer Third Class Billie Jo Long, Mathen Jr and Calvin Givens; Chase and Haylee Howell; Aspen and Harper Howell; and Nolan Hajovsky.
He took great pride in being a father, instilling in each of his children the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He was a guiding force which shaped not only his children, but also everyone around him.
Rest in peace, dear Michael. Your spirit, strength, and kindness will forever be remembered. You have left an incredible mark on our lives, and your lessons will continue to guide us every day.
As we gather to honor Michael’s memory, we encourage all who knew Michael to share their stories and celebrate the incredible impact he had on so many. Though you may no longer walk among us, your love will continue to inspire and uplift us as we carry your legacy forward.
