Lester enjoyed a varied and colorful life, including his early days romping about as a boy in the hills and valleys of Tennessee, his 20 years of service in the United States Air Force as a radar maintenance technician and included tours in Japan and states from Florida to Alaska, his work as a warehouse foreman for the Internal Revenue Service, and his 20 years ownership of Horton's Station Antique shop in Lone Jack, Missouri, during which time Les and Glenna traveled all over the country acquiring antiques to sell and more stories to tell. Lester was quite a storyteller: his family and friends were treated to the retelling of many wonderful events and escapades he experienced throughout his life. He had a very special connection with all his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews. Lester spent most of his latter years living in Lee's Summit, Missouri , and his final years in Copperas Cove, Texas.

He is survived by his three children; Janet McNeal of Copperas Cove, Texas, Barry Horton of St. Marks, Florida, and Paula Simmons of Grain Valley, Missouri; ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson; and two brothers, Woody Horton of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Steve Horton of Olive Springs, Mississippi.
