Mrs. Craig passed away Feb. 5, 2015, in Temple, TX. Dorothy Fae Zion was born June 17, 1937 in Elida, NM. She grew up in Portales, NM, where she met Jimmie Craig, her husband of 55 years. She joined him through his enlistment in the Army to places like Vicenza, Italy, Fort Benning, GA , and Fort Hood, TX. He retired in 1972 with a permanent residence in Copperas Cove, TX.
While traveling with JImmie, she several odd jobs throughout the years. She worked as a police dispatcher (temporarily deputized as an officer) in Portales, NM and worked at the Copperas Cove High School as one of the cafeteria servers. When Jimmie retired she started working at Central Texas College as a registrar where she worked for 17+ years. While working as a registrar, she earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration.
In retirement, she and Jimmie spent their time traveling, visiting family & friends across the country. She enjoyed baking cakes for special events and was always willing to teach others how to do the same. She was a devout Christian, loving God through acts of service and kindness at Clear Creek Baptist Church. She volunteered her time at the Wounded Warrior Center and The Copperas Cove Benevolence House. She was also a Member of the Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her parents L.G. and Roxie Zion, husband Jimmie Craig and brothers Dalton, Donald, and Buck Zion. She is survived by her brother Dale Zion, 4 children, Jack, Billy, Sue, and Pam, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
