David was born July 25, 1954 to Albert and Evalazelle Wilson in Austin, Texas.
He attended and graduated from Texas A&M University with the Class of 1976. He later received his Masters of Educational Administration degree from Tarleton State University in 1983.
David was a member of the First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove for over 30 years where he served as a Deacon, on the Missions Committee and as a Sunday School Teacher.
He was a teacher for the Copperas Cove Independent School District from 1979 until 2003 and with the Killeen Independent School District from 2003 until 2011. In both districts he was a special education teacher or teacher facilitator. Over the years David touched the lives of many very special children as they did his.
As a public servant David served on the Copperas Cove City Council for two terms, 1985 until 1992 and again in 1995 until 1998. While serving on the council he worked very hard to help Copperas Cove get a new Public Library, a project he took great pleasure in seeing completed for the people.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan Wilson of Copperas Cove; a son, Jonathan Wilson of Copperas Cove; a daughter, Sabrina Fernandez of Copperas Cove; three grandchildren, Deseree Fernandez, Triston Reens and Dylan Adams all of Copperas Cove; a brother, James Wilson and his wife Tish of Rowlett and two sisters, Carolyn Wilson of Zanesville, Ohio and Nancy Jones and her husband Glenn of Madisonville.
The Wilson family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 7pm until 9 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove with Dr. Mark Kemp, Pastor officiating. Interment services will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Wilburn, Peter Simpson, Noel Schnitz, Raiford Williams, Don Elliott and Hardy Ingram.
