On October 5, 2024, Spencer Glen Thrasher, age 51, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his cherished family. Spencer was a devoted husband, beloved son and brother, and a doting uncle whose wit, laughter, and strong sense of humor will leave an everlasting mark on all who were fortunate to know him. A celebration of Spencer’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14th, at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, TX 75019, with Pastor Nathan Tucker officiating.
Born on August 16, 1973, in Dallas, TX, to Jack and Linda Thrasher, Spencer grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, graduating from Coppell High School in 1992. After high school, Spencer proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a firefighter and first responder. His service took him across the U.S. and abroad, with assignments in Florida, Hungary, and Honduras. After his military service, Spencer applied his expertise to support KFOR, a NATO-led international peacekeeping force, as part of Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo. His dedication to service and commitment to helping others extended beyond his time in uniform, reflecting the values he carried throughout his life. Upon returning home in the fall of 2001, Spencer met the love of his life, Jennifer Ricks. Their connection was instant and enduring. Spencer and Jennifer recently celebrated 23 wonderful years together, marked by shared adventures, deep companionship, and unwavering support for one another.
Spencer and Jennifer created lasting memories exploring new places together. Breckenridge, Colorado, became a particularly special destination for them, not only as a favorite getaway but also as the place where they exchanged vows. Spencer deeply valued time with his family, making it a priority to gather for weekly dinners with his parents and sister. He cherished his mother’s home-cooked meals, and Sundays held special meaning as he loved watching football with his dad. Spencer and his sister, Tracy, created lasting memories during their trips together to Washington, D.C., and Hollywood. Spencer also enjoyed long walks with Lola, his and Jennifer’s spirited miniature dachshund, who brought joy to their everyday lives.
Spencer was not only a loving husband but also took immense pride in his role as an uncle. His niece, Addie, and nephew, Bennett, held a special place in his heart, and he never missed an opportunity to spoil them with love and attention. One of his proudest moments came in October 2022 when he and Jennifer took Addie to Disney World, solidifying his status as "the greatest uncle of all time."
Spencer is survived by his devoted wife, Jennifer Ricks Thrasher; his beloved parents, Jack and Linda Thrasher; his sister, Tracy Thrasher; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Ricks; his sister-in-law, Sarah Creech; his brother-in-law, Jonathan Creech; and his niece and nephew, Addie and Bennett Creech.
