Growing up in Tyler Texas, he was an accomplished swimmer in high school including being a Junior Olympic medalist. Dickey worked his way through college as roughneck on drilling rigs throughout East Texas. After obtaining degrees in Math and Physics from East Texas State University, he began his career in computing in Dallas. In 1972 he moved his family back to Tyler to return to work in the East Texas oilfield where he progressed from a rig manager with Delta Drilling Company to director of field operations for an independent oil exploration company. Dickey’s work ethic was unmatched. While having a successful career in oil & gas, he also built a well service company and most notably took over South Park Mobile Home estates from his parents in 1974 which he grew and owned until 2021.
Dickey loved to hunt and was a lifelong hunter. He was an avid duck hunter in his youth, hunting most of East Texas but primarily Lake Palestine during its creation years.
A memorial service will be held from 3-5 pm on August 3rd at The Venue at Cantina, 7428 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Suite 30, Tyler, Texas 75703. Light menu served.
