Michael George (Mike) Watson, affectionately known as "Pop," took his last breath on earth and was instantly in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family. He was born on May 3, 1951, to Rayford D. (Jack) Watson and Frances Boucher Watson in San Angelo, Texas, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life and cherished memories of his childhood.
Attending Lakeview High School, Mike proudly embraced his role as a Lakeview Chief, forming lasting friendships along the way. His roots run deep in San Angelo, where he cultivated a sense of community and belonging that would shape his character for years to come.
In his professional life, Mike served his community with valor and commitment, spending 14 proud years as a member of the San Angelo Fire Department. His bravery and selflessness were evident as he faced challenges head-on, always putting the safety of others above his own.
In 1985, Mike transferred his dedication to service to the Coppell Fire Department, where he continued to make a difference in the lives of those around him. His passion for helping others and his unwavering work ethic left an indelible mark. Mike retired from the Coppell Fire Department in March 2001.
Until his last day, Mike was filled with pride being a part of the Firefighting brotherhood. He lived with, loved and would have given his life for any of the brothers he proudly served with.
Mike’s greatest source of pride was his family. He was a devoted husband for more than 51 years to his wife Linda, who he affectionately reminded on each anniversary “You’re still the one!”. He is also survived by his son Bobby Jack Watson and wife Shaydee, son Cody Watson and wife Ellen and his 5 cherished granddaughters, McKayla Watson, Julia Poole, Seren Watson, Every Watson and Rowyn Watson. Mike’s love for his family knew no bounds.
Quick-witted and full of humor, Mike had a knack for brightening any room with his laugh and playful spirit. He relished social and family gatherings, where he could share stories, play jokes, and bring fun to those around him. He never met a stranger, and his genuine kindness and compassionate nature endeared him to many. His legacy will continue to impact those who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Frances Watson, his beloved sister Kay Robbins of Bronte, Texas, an infant brother and infant twin brothers. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Wayne Moreland of Brady, Texas.
Other survivors include his “little sister” Peggy Moreland and his sisters- and brothers-in-law Alonzo Robbins, Shirley and Leo Minzenmayer, and Rickye Moreland, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. under the direction of Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, TX 75029.
