Lorraine Teresa (LaRocca) Hunter was born in Manhattan NY, February 14, 1950 and passed away September 28, 2023. She moved to Greenwood Lake NY when she was 9. It was there she first met Chuck in the 4th grade, whom she would go on to graduate elementary, high school, and college with. They began dating following high school and were married in 1972 while Chuck was serving in the US Navy in Japan. Lorraine and Chuck spent the next two years living in Japan, memories Lorraine would share with others throughout her life, including showing off her hiking stick from climbing Mt. Fuji. On the return to New York, Lorraine resumed her role as an educator while raising her two sons. She was very proud of their numerous accomplishments including both attaining Eagle Scout.
In 2005, Lorraine and Chuck relocated from New York to Texas, where she continued her teaching role as a substitute teacher and mentor to several students, as well as leading a Spanish language group in the Coppell Women’s Club. She will best be remembered for her infectious smile, being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and her 30 years as an endearing teacher of the Spanish language at Goshen, NY schools.
In retirement Lorraine enjoyed both domestic and international travel, including visiting Sciacca, Italy, her ancestors homeland. She and her husband additionally enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, visiting national parks and attending events like the Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico, and the Rose Ball Parade in California. But her favorite destination was visiting her grandchildren in California and Texas. In addition to traveling, Lorraine enjoyed playing Mahjong and throughout her career teaching people origami, the art of paper folding. Even through the dementia from which she suffered in her later years, music would always bring her joy, especially music celebrating her Italian roots. Her personality continued to shine through and bring joy to her family and staff at Mayberry Gardens memory care facility.
