Lisa was born on August 6, 1966, in Fredonia, KS, the daughter of Rodney Folger and Kathleen Beal. She grew up in Fredonia and attended local schools.
She received a dual bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Kansas State University. While at KSU, Lisa was a cheerleader for her beloved Wildcats and an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
On September 24, 1994 Lisa married Peter Kunkel of Manhattan, KS. They were blessed with three children James, Patrick and Kathleen.
Lisa spent the majority of her professional career at Pioneer Natural Resources, last serving as Derivative Risk Director. She found her work challenging, rewarding and appreciative of the people she had the opportunity to work with over the years. She was a mentor to several of her peers.
As rewarding as her professional career was, her true love was her family. She was happiest spending time with friends and family at home in the backyard. She took great pride in her children’s academic and athletic pursuits. Lisa really enjoyed traveling with her family, some of those trips included annual ski trips to New Mexico, hiking in Colorado, trips to New York City, and a recent trip to Ireland.
Preceded in death were Lisa’s grandparents, Carrol and Mavis Folger, Gordon and Betty Wiltse, Glenn and Faye Beal; Jon C. Beal Jr.; and in-laws James Kunkel and Priscilla Wattenford.
Lisa is survived by her husband Peter, sons James and Patrick and daughter Kathleen, all of Coppell, TX. Also surviving are parents Rodney Folger (Altoona, KS), Jon and Kathleen Beal (Fredonia, KS); father-in-law Mylo Wattenford (Manhattan, KS); brother Kent Folger (wife Jennifer of Ankeny, IA); sisters Paige Chesnut (husband James of Fredonia, KS) and Julie Sumner (husband Brian of Fredonia, KS); sister-in-law Mary Kaufman (husband Rex of Newton, KS) and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Peter and the kids would like to thank all the family, friends and co-workers for the amazing support they have received over the past 15 months. Whether it was a visit, a call, text or one of the many wonderful meals provided, they were all greatly appreciated. She was clothed with strength and dignity, and laughed without fear of the future.
