Larry Ross Cook of Coppell, Texas, age 79, passed away on February 5, 2025. Larry was born to Beamon S. “Buster” Cook and Nelle Mae Cook on July 31, 1945, in Eagle Lake, Texas. He was a tough, honest, gentle, quiet, mild-mannered East Texas boy with deep roots in Lufkin, where he was a star catcher on the 1963 Lufkin Panther State Championship baseball team. He went on to play baseball at Panola Junior College and later earned his degree in Economics from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) in 1968. While at SFA, he served as President of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity.
He began his career with Texas Power & Light but was soon hired by TDIndustries (TD) and embarked on a 37-year career, serving in various leadership roles, always as a servant leader. He was a creative salesman and dealmaker, one of the most compassionate Partners at TD, always there in times of need, never seeking recognition for what he did to help his fellow Partners. He held numerous professional licenses, including his Real Estate Broker license, and served on the National Board and Executive Committee for Air Conditioning Contractors of America.
Away from the office he enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He loved to play golf, carding his first hole-in-one just a few years ago. He was happiest with family and friends at West Lakes Club in East Texas where he could be found in his boat fishing a brush pile, watching a sunrise in the deer stand, or simply relaxing among the peacefulness of the pine trees.
Being “NanDad” to Hayden and Hadleigh was one of his most cherished roles. He was their biggest fan and wore the tires off his truck traveling to cheer them on at football, basketball, soccer, cheer competitions, and most recently to their high school baseball and volleyball games. He now has the best seat in the house.
He and his wife Marsha shared a lifelong love story. Larry was always up for a road trip and adventure with his beautiful blonde wife by his side. They travelled the world, but he was just as happy splitting a meal at a local dive as he would have been anywhere, as long as he was with her.
He will be missed by many, but is now at peace fishing a heavenly honey hole, catching a ballgame, and waiting until we meet again.
He is survived by his spouse of 56 years, Marsha Herrick Cook; children Kyle Cook and Shannon Russell, and her husband Eric Russell; grandchildren Hayden Russell and Hadleigh Russell; brother-in-law David Herrick; sister-in-law Karen Herrick; nephews Drew Herrick, Randy Cook, and John Sullivan; nieces Katie O’Connor, Kelsey Herrick, and Diana Albrecht. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Norris Cook; sister Gwenda Sullivan; nephew Larry Don Cook; and niece Susan Sullivan.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Coppell at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to T. Boone Pickens Faith Presbyterian Hospice, the American Cancer Society, First United Methodist Church of Coppell, or a charity that is near to your heart.
