Born in 1952 in Taxila, Punjab, India-- just five years after the partition that would see his birthplace become part of what is now West Pakistan-- Javed was the youngest of his siblings. He was deeply cherished from the beginning, earning the nickname "Precious" from his family-- a name that perfectly reflected the loving, gentle, man he became.
He attended the Christian Training Institute in Sialkot, where he completed grades 5 through 12, and later earned his B.A. from Gordon College in Rawalpindi.
Even as a toddler, Javed's musical talent was unmistakable. At age three, he would imitate his eldest brother Anoose, pretending to sing and play the harmonium. This early fascination grew into a deep passion. Javed became a celebrated singer, known for his soulful performances of traditional provincial Ghazals. In 1976, he was awarded a gold medal at The All Pakistan Music Conference-- a national honor that recognized his extraordinary gift.
In 1978, Javed immigrated to the United States, where he continued to perform for audiences across the U.S. and Canada, keeping cultural traditions alive and bringing joy to the Pakistan diaspora.
In America, Javed found new purpose and joy. Through mutual Canadian friends, he met the love of his life, Lubna "Honey" Khairullah. They were married in November 1983 in a beautiful celebration of love and family.
He began his professional life in the courier business, which he grew through dedication and hard work. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him into real estate, where he continued to thrive and provide for his family with grace and persistence.
Above all, Javed was a man of great love. A romantic at heart, he had a rare gift for making everyone feel special. He was generous to a fault-- always the first to lend a hand or offer his time. Whether you were young or old, his kindness made you feel like family. He was a beloved son, a cherished brother, a devoted husband, a proud father, a joyful grandfather, a supportive uncle, and a loyal friend.
He is survived by his wife, Lubna "Honey" Taj; sons Shahrukh Taj and Jason Taj; grandchildren Zayaan Taj and Zara Taj; brother-in-law Bobby Khairullah; siblings Anoose Taj, Amos Taj, Marcella Almas, Mabie Taj, Berjees Khalaf, Parveen Ghulam, and Shirin Taj.
Javed's voice-- both in music and in spirit-- will echo in our hearts forever. His was a life filled with meaning, sweet melodies, and selfless love. May his memory live on in each of us.
A celebration of life in honor of Javed will be held on April 21st, 2025 at 10:00am at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, TX 75019.
