Ernest Elmore Powell, the sixth child born to the union of Clinton “CJ” and Maria Powell, was born on March 2, 1961, in Bakersfield, California. He was a 1981 graduate of Ennis High School in Ennis, Texas, and afterward served in the United States Air Force. As a young man, Ernest confessed his belief in Christ, and was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ennis under the pastorate of Rev. E. S. Cook.
In 1989, Ernest married Kathleen Simpson, and became father to then six-year-old, Amber. The family eventually moved to Coppell, TX in 1991. Prior to his death, Ernest worked as a crew leader for the City of Coppell Public Works and Utilities Department, as well as, part-time at Hard Eight BBQ, also in Coppell.
After a lengthy illness, Ernest (53) went to eternal rest at home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, in the arms of his wife and surrounded by the comfort of his three daughters. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, loving grandmother, Lena Elmore, oldest brother, Clinton Jr., and youngest brother, James Franklin, Jr.
A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many, Ernest leaves to cherish his everlasting memories and celebrate his life his devoted wife, Kathi; daughters Amber Bowens (Dwan), Autumn, and Angel, all of Coppell; two sisters, Marsha Powell of Los Angeles, CA and Tina Harris (Gregory) of Houston, TX; two brothers, Galen Powell and Raymond Powell, both of Dallas, TX; four sisters-in-law, Marilyn Lewis (John) of Trumbull, CT, Sandra Davidson and Florence Hubbard (Howard), both of Little Rock, AR, and Kathleen Roberts Powell (Clinton Jr.) of Ennis, TX; one brother-in-law, James Simpson of Denton, TX; close family friend, Ray Hawkins of Arlington, TX, and a host of family and friends.
Both visitation and funeral services will take place at Restland Funeral Home-Coppell Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, November 24th from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., and the funeral on Tuesday, November 25th at 2:00 p.m.
