He dedicated his life in service of unity, fostering personal and wide-ranging relationships that built bridges between faith traditions, economic positions, and social divisions. Upon encountering the spirituality of the Focolare Movement thirty years ago, Dan devoted himself to living the Gospel, writing, “My hands are firmly on the plow and I should never look back.”
Born April 2, 1947 in Houston, Dan received his BBA from St. Edward’s University in 1969, which led to a fulfilling career in the hospitality industry with Choice Hotels. One of his early positions brought him to Washington, D.C. where he met Mary Therese Lynch, and they were married in 1978 in Houston before permanently settling in the Dallas area. After operating hotels in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, he moved into a corporate training role until his retirement in 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, David Mulvey of San Angelo, Texas, Laura Kellerman (Austin) of Little Rock, Ark., James D. Mulvey of Irving, Texas; his granddaughter, Katherine Kellerman; his siblings, Most Reverend Michael Mulvey, Bishop of Corpus Christi, Texas, Martha Ann Currie (Scott) of Irving, Texas, John C. Mulvey (Carol) of Dallas, Timothy J. Mulvey (Tonja) and Kim P. Mulvey (Julie) both of Georgetown, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel H. Mulvey Jr. and Marjorie Patterson Mulvey.
Friends are invited to a vigil service and rosary at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 21 followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 180 Samuel Blvd, Coppell, TX 75019. His life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass on Friday, January 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with reception to follow in the Assembly Room, and Rite of Committal at the Coppell City Cemetery, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, TX 75019.
