Chen Chin, 86 years old passed away on September 28th, 2024 at his home. Chen was born on December 2, 1937 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He moved to the United States in 1984 escaping the Khmer Rouge War and settled in Long Beach, California. He moved his family to Dallas, Texas in 1995 where they currently reside.
Chen is a quiet man with little words. Many would describe him as strong yet simplistic. He was happy with just a cup of coffee and re-run of his favorite Chinese movies. He retired with the Carrollton- Farmers Branch ISD as a Custodian and later returned to Phnom Penh, Cambodia where he spent the last 14 years living a simple life of meditation dedicating his life to Buddhism.
Chen is preceded in death by his son Lout Oul and he is survived by his former wife Son Han and 7 children, Sal (John) Williams, Stacy (Brent) Harmon, Andy (Odelly) Chin, Sara (Jesse) Evangelista, Sarom (Jason) Jackson, Dy (Alba) Chin, and Date (Lindsay) Chin, 23 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, Texas on October 7th at 10:00 a.m. There will also be another service on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at 9:30 am, there will be a Nerng Prarob Festival (7-day prayer) at Wat Preah Keo Morakot Cambodian Buddhist Temple (206 Cherokee Path Flower Mound, Texas).
