Betty Mae Christensen Adams went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2025 in Coppell, Texas at the age of 101. Betty was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on October 29, 1923 to Fred George Christensen and Ida Martha Kohls Christensen. Betty graduated from Grand Island High School in 1941 and held several jobs until she met and married Archie Dale Adams. They married on September 18, 1946 and lived in Lincoln, Nebraska while Archie attended the University of Nebraska. Upon receiving his diploma, Archie handed it to Betty saying it was partly hers since she did all the reading and outlining and he took the tests. They moved to Borger, Texas in February 1951 when Archie accepted a job with Phillips Petroleum as a Chemist. Both of their sons, Russell and David, were born and raised in Borger. Betty said that her favorite job was being Archie’s wife and Mom to Rusty and Davey (Russ and Dave now). Betty & Archie lived in Borger for 57 years before moving to Christus St. Joseph Village in Coppell, Texas to be near their sons.
Art has been a large part of Betty’s life from childhood. It was her favorite subject in Junior and High School where her ability was encouraged by a favorite art teacher. When Dave was 3 years old, Betty began taking lessons from local artists and joined the Borger Creative Arts Club. This was where her creativity blossomed as she enjoyed sewing, crafting, quilting, sculpting, pottery, and learning to paint using pastels, acrylic and oil paints, and watercolors. All of her children and grandchildren have many examples of her artistic ability in their homes. Although Betty sold some of her art in Texas and Colorado art fairs and gift shops, her great delight was gifting her creations to those that appreciated them. Betty enjoyed teaching art in Borger and at Christus St. Joseph Village. Betty’s family encouraged her to enter examples of her art in the State Fair of Texas where she won many ribbons over the years.
Betty’s sons would call her “Doctor Mom” because she had a cure of some kind for anything that ailed you! Betty loved word games; she was a whiz at crossword puzzles and usually beat the computer when she played Scrabble on her iPad. Betty also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards and Rummikub with her friends at Christus St. Joseph Village.
Betty was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and her faith sustained her during her life. She was a member of Faith Covenant Church in Borger, Texas for many years and attended church services where she lived until her health would no longer allow her to attend.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Archie after 71 years of marriage, and by an older sister, Mary, and an older brother, Fred Jr. (Bud). She is survived by her two sons, Russell and wife Janet of Keller, and David and wife Becky of Coppell. She has three grandchildren, Michael and wife Jenny, Sharon and husband Mike, and Daniel. She has six great-grandchildren, Rhyan, Rhett, Beckett, Bradley, Auden, and Paul. With God’s grace and in His timing, we will all be reunited again. All praise and glory be to God!
The family wants to thank the staff of Christus St. Joseph Village and especially Betty’s caregivers. The tender care and graciousness they provided went above and beyond what was required and was a great blessing to her and to us all.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 AM Monday, March 17, at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway in Coppell, Texas, followed by a private graveside service at DFW National Cemetery. There will be a come and go reception at the home of Russ and Janet Adams from 5:00 to 7:30 PM that day.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Master’s Men Ministry – Mentoring, PO Box 797363, Dallas, TX 75379.
