Therolene was born into this world on December 3, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama, to her proud parents Elb and Ophelia Dickerson. Though she didn't speak to many memories growing up in Birmingham, one of her fondest was going to visit her Grandmother, and eating her cooking. She was educated in the Birmingham Public School system; earning her High School Diploma from Parker High School, in 1960.
Immediately after receiving her diploma, she ventured onward to New York, to begin what would be her journey in life. It was here, in New York that she would earn the name Terri; in most part, due to the complexity of people pronouncing Therolene.
Terri would create an identity as a strong, willful, adamant woman who was very motivated in regards to achieving her goals. She spent the early years of her life as an insurance agent with All State insurance. But, she finally found her niche with the transportation industry, where she spent 30+ years as both a driver and matron with disabled children. It was a passion of hers.
In addition, she was a very stern, and disciplined Mother to the 3 sons of her own.
Her life was centered around her children, and her home. It was never a surprise to see her outside in her yard, working on some project to beautify her landscape. She loved her home, and she gave her heart and soul to it.
Surviving is her beloved family - her sons, Maurice Greene, Shaborn Salaam and Cedric Dixon; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her siblings - Geraldine Dickerson, Bonita Dickerson, Sarah Dickerson, Norman Dickerson, Calvin Dickerson, Brenda Crutcher, Sonya Dickerson and Vickie Mumford; her Goddaughter, Belinda McKie; and her stepmother, Mary Dickerson. Predeceasing Terri are her parents, Elb and Ophelia Dickerson; and her siblings -- Elb, Jr., Clifton, Martha, Leon and Robin.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated by Rev. Dr. Patricia Rickenbacker of Living Hope Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church of Massapequa at 1:00 p.m. Cremation is private.
