Sandy was born in Malverne, L.I., to her late parents, Edward and Grace Hohman. The family later moved and made their home in Massapequa. She attended the local schools there, graduating from Massapequa High in 1959. While in school, she met her future husband, Edward Kimball. They married, and deciding to stay in their hometown, raised their own family there. She and Edward divorced in later years, but still remained close with a wonderful friendship.
In her years of work, Sandy was a bookkeeper, having served in a few industries, and ultimately retiring from the Brandon Corporation in Farmingdale. Sandy had a few passions, but none gave her as much joy as her gardening. She so enjoyed being out in her garden, and having an immense love and a bond with nature. She had such a love for animals, and in her younger years was known for rescuing all animals that needed her help – from cats and dogs, to birds and squirrels. Tending to her garden today, you would still find her feeding the birds and the squirrels. Sandy looked forward to going to the movies with her girlfriends; also loved to read, as she was a member of two book clubs; and playing Mahjong. Traveling was also an enjoyment, whether it was visiting her children both north and south of Long Island, or taking in the sites of Europe.
In addition to her parents, Sandy is predeceased by her sister, Lola Curry and her brothers, Richard Hohman and Robert Hohman.
Surviving are her children – her son, Ken Kimball and her daughter-in-law, Kathy; and her daughter, Diana McGarrity and her son-in-law, Pat; her grandchildren – Sarah Kimball, Katie (Billy) Gregory, Kenny Kimball, Casey McGarrity and Kate McGarrity; her sister, Dolores Warnke and her brother, Ronald Hohman; and her former husband, Edward. Also surviving are many cherished nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for Memorial Visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, October 19th, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be offered at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Sandy’s name are deeply appreciated to “Francis House”, 108 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse, New York 13208.
