Eleanor M. Whelan, a long-time resident of Copiague, New York, died Thursday, April 28, 2011. Eleanor was born in Trenton, New Jersey to her parents, the late Michael and Bertha Warasky. She and her husband, the late Joseph Whalen; married in 1960. Before her marriage, she worked as a Secretary for the Trenton Catholic Boys High School, and in later years, for AAA Trucking. Joe and Eleanor lived their early years in Malverne, where Joe served with the Fire Department. They then bought their home in Copiague, where they raised their family. Her beloved Joe died in 1999. Surviving are Eleanor's children - Vincent Whelan, Rosemary Gitlin and her husband, Steven; and Linda Pusateri and her husband, John; her six grandchildren, Brianna, Cory and Troy Gitlin and Samantha, Jamie and Kyle Pusateri; one great-granddaughter, Ava Johnston; and two sisters - Joan Duffy and Irene Vanpelt. Family and friends gathered for viewing and visitation on Monday, May 2nd at the D'Andrea Bros. Funeral Home of Copiague from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. On Tuesday, May 3rd, a Funeral Mass was offered at Our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church. Interment followed in Calverton National Cemetery.
