On June 30th, 1939, Barbara made her appearance in the Bronx, New York. She was gifted to Georgia Dickens and Robert Hinton. She grew up with her five siblings. Barbara grew up in the Bronx up to her teen years until she moved to Amityville, New York. She graduated from Amityville High School in 1956.
Throughout the years she traveled a lot. She traveled to New York, Chicago and Mississippi. In New York is where she met her husband Charles Powell; and together had four children - Cheryl, Charles, Tyrone and Elaine. Years later she married A.C. Harvey and were blessed with two more children - Valerie and Alicia.
Barbara had many jobs throughout the years, working as a short-order cook, and also at the Welfare Department while in Mississippi. In New York, she worked as a secretary, and in the Mortgage Department of Northfork and Capital One Banks. At the bank is where she met her good friend, Florrie Stewart.
Barbara enjoyed many activities like bowling, playing cards, casinos, going on cruises, bingo and cooking.
Barbara fought her battle with cancer until she departed this earth on March 7th, 2018. Her husbands, Charles and A.C.; her mother, Georgia; her daughter, Alicia; and her sister Elizabeth; precedes her in death.
She leaves behind her children - Cheryl, Charles, Tyrone, Elaine and Valerie; her siblings - Theodore, Yolanda, Denise and Ray; her grandchildren - Denise, Rico, Sheritha, Jeremy, Andreas, Yolanda, Barbara, Shantel, Danasia, Quntin, Da'Monique, Shaquille and Dashante; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
