Melvin "Mel" O. Brenden

Age 86 of Blaine, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

Preceded in death by daughter, Anita Cater; parents, Olaf and Sine; brother, Emil; sisters, Solveig, Ellen, and infant sister who passed away at birth.

Survived by wife of 53 years, Colleen; son-in-law, Steve Cater; very special grandsons, Brady and Ben; sisters-in-law, Arlene Gerlach, Helen Fischer, and Sharon Campbell; special niece and care giver, Denise Spohn, as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mel retired from Schmidt Music as a piano tuner, refurbished piano keys at his in-home business (including a set for Prince) and was an accomplished accordionist, playing with LeRoy Larson and the Minnesota Scandinavian Ensemble. The Ensemble produced several albums and were once featured on CBS This Morning co-hosted by Harry Smith.

Mel was honorably discharged from the Army in 1959, receiving a Letter of Commendation and Good Conduct Medal.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 9th 11 AM with visitation one hour prior at Gearhart Funeral Home 11275 Foley Blvd NW, Coon Rapids.
