We are devastated to announce the passing of Jon Richard Degnan "Degs, Deggie" 57, Blaine, MN. Born 9/13/1966 and died 9/27/2023 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Jon left an impression on all. He was an amazing athlete: as a proud Coon Rapids Cardinal, his football, hockey, and baseball brotherhood meant the world to him. Out of high school, Jon played junior hockey with the Whalers and won a national championship going on to play hockey at UW-Superior. Jon also played on a number of softball and broomball teams over the years, having much success and making tons of friends and memories. Jon worked in the metals industry for over 30 years, moving into a managerial position which he enjoyed immensely. Jon loved MN sports and was an avid Wild/Vikings/Twins/Gophers fan. He spent much free time watching and attending games. Another love was playing golf where he spent most of his free time with his friends and wife. Jon and his wife, Karla, went to highschool together and reconnected through Facebook 30 years later. They married in 2021 after seven years together. Jon also loved music. Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, John Mellencamp and Bob Seger were among his very favorites. Preceded in death by father (George) and mother (Patricia). Survived by Karla, four children, Amber McCollow, Shelbi (Joe), Matthew, and Nadia, two bonus children, Jack Haben and Julia Haben, siblings Tim (Vana) Degnan, Michele (Rick) Imdieke, Sheila (Charles) Peterson, Dan (Cindy) Degnan, Gigi (Jon) Inkman, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and hundreds of friends, coworkers, and former teammates. Jon loved his children and family beyond measure and enjoyed every moment he could spend with them. His kids inherited his sense of humor, sarcastic wit, and intelligence. Those who know Jon will remember him as an excellent leader, the life of the party, and an all around great guy. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7th at Viking Meadows Golf Club, 1788 Viking Blvd, East Bethel. 10:00 - noon; Breakfast (Jon’s favorite meal to cook) Bloodys, and Connection; Noon - Celebration/service filled with stories and music; 1:30 - a round of golf for those who would like to celebrate Jon’s passion together. Those interested in golf should call the clubhouse at 763-434-4205 to reserve your round.
Fly high, sweet Jon!
