A truly wonderful child of God and mother, sister, wife and grandmother, Mildred Louise (Jones) Pressley of Oxford, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 17, 2010 after a long struggle with COPD. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Horis A. Ward’s Rockdale Chapel, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Steve Murray officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge.
She was born to Charles L. and Lavenia Hensley Jones on February 2, 1917 in Loudon, TN. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brothers, Joe Jones, Roy Jones and Charles “Chili” Jones and her beloved husband, Raymond E. Pressley.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl (Jerry) Causey and Karen Pressley of Oxford; son, Wayne (Marie) Pressley of Conley. Also surviving are her dear grandchildren, Jason (Shannon) Causey, Heather (Robby) Davis, both of Conyers, Dawn LaChance of Covington, Whitney Pressley and Jason Hulan of Jackson and Christopher Jerrod (Ammarie) Pressley of Stockbridge. She will be missed by her great-grandchildren, Meredith and Taylor Causey, Sydney and Will Davis and CJ and Eli Pressley. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews in TN, GA, VA and AR and her remaining sister-in-law, Helen Jones of TN.
Mrs. Pressley met Raymond Pressley in TN where they married in Madisonville, TN on May 12, 1941. At the end of WWII, when Mr. Pressley returned home from serving in the Army Air Corps, they settled in Atlanta, GA where daughter Sheryl and son Wayne were born. They lived for a time in Nashville, TN where their daughter Karen was born. After returning to GA they lived in Decatur and Lithonia for a 35 year period. After the death of Mr. Pressley, Mrs. Pressley lived in Conyers for 10 years and in Oxford from 2001 until her death.
Though she worked in a hosiery mill in Loudon, TN prior to moving to GA, she never worked again outside the home after the births of her children, becoming the most devoted mother, wife and homemaker for the rest of her life.
Mrs. Pressley was a trusted friend and “Mother” figure to many and remained young at heart throughout her faithful life and will be missed by many for her sense of humor, giving spirit and sweet smile. She was a member of the Nazerene Church and lived her faith, never failing to exhibit it to her children and all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8, on Friday, June 18, 2010, at the funeral home.
