Rosemary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, William McKinley “Bill” Scott, three sisters, three brothers, and a grandson, Scott Hicks.
She is survived by sister, June Edwards of Boston; daughter Karen Hicks (Jim) of Conway, and sons, Kirk Scott of Carrollton, Texas, Mark Scott (Suzanne) of Washington, D.C., and Brian Scott (Shawn) of Morgan, Texas; six grandchildren, Ryan, Stephen (Bridget), and Justin Hicks, Heather (Daniel) Larsen, and Sidney and Amelia Scott; and four great-grandchildren, Ani, Leni, and Loki Larsen, and Danny Monroe Hicks.
She was of the Methodist faith.
As a dedicated mother and grandmother, Rosemary spent months preparing for holiday meals with large spreads of food and countless tins of goodies for family gatherings. She always had a hobby about which to study and learn, whether collecting primitive antiques, gardening, being a birder, or traveling. Many newspaper articles were written about and garden tours held in her beautiful yard in Amarillo Texas. The garden was featured in a PBS segment entitled “Gardens of the Southwest”. Her perennial borders were well-known for attracting rare species of hummingbirds and other unusual birds for the area. As an avid birder, more interested in going and doing than being in meetings, Rosemary helped establish the Amarillo, Texas, Panhandle Bird Club and helped coordinate weekly area birding field trips. Rosemary wrote the monthly PBC newsletter column, “Gardening for the Birds” and kept up with publishing club bird sightings and counts for many years. Whether trekking down to her beloved Palo Duro Canyon, participating in annual bird counts, or traveling throughout the United States and even as far away as South America or Antarctica, she was always ready for an adventure. Even as her memory faded and health declined, she always had a ready smile and infectious laugh for all, and she will be missed.
A graveside service will be held 10:30, Friday, February 18 in Quitman. Interment will be at the City of Quitman Cemetery in Quitman, AR. The Reverend Jim Ward will be the officiant. To sign the online guestbook, click “Add A Memory” at: www.griffinleggettconway.com
