On June 1, 1946, Beverly was born the first of seven children to Virgil and Lillie Mae DeMar. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and faithfully served God throughout her life.
Beverly attended Englewood High School in Chicago and graduated with The Class of 1964. She was a member of the nursing club and avoided athletics because she said that her legs were too pretty! Upon graduation from Englewood High School, Beverly enrolled into a Nursing Program where she earned her Practical Nursing License.
She started her career working at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Beverly spent her career doing what she loved and was passionate about by caring for others. She also worked at various nursing homes and finally retired from the Conway Human Development Center in Conway, Arkansas.
On August 13, 1967 Beverly married the love of her life John Melvin Thompson, Sr. . And to that marriage 6 children were born. Lena Lowe (Raymond), John Melvin Jr. , Anethea McFarlin(Marcellis), Edward (Cheryl), Douglas (Sharmin), and Angelique.
In 1986, the Thompson Family relocated to Conway, Arkansas where they became members of Robinson and Center Church of Christ.
As a result of the pain, she experienced upon the death of her husband, John Sr. Beverly answered the call from The Lord to begin a card ministry. Her handmade cards were uniquely designed with a personal touch for each individual person or family that the card was sent to. In accordance with 2 Corinthians 1:4 Beverly gave comfort to the people that she received from the Lord. Even in death Beverly continued to give of herself by being a tissue donor.
Beverly enjoyed attending her Senior Wednesday morning Bible class with all of her friends. She participated in the mission ministry on Tuesdays and loved hanging out afterwards with her friends Sharon, Michelle and the rest of the ladies. Mom also lived on the edge when she would ride on the back of the motorcycle with her brother Ralph.
Most of all, Beverly enjoyed traveling, especially to see her grandchildren. All 28 of them!
Left to celebrate her memory are her six children, 28 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, Her sister Dr Brenda J. DeMar-Williams (Robert), 4 brothers: Kenneth DeMar (Joyce), Gerald DeMar (Rosalyn), Ralph DeMar, and James Freeney and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Gathering of friends and family to visit and memorialize Beverly Ann Thompson will be held Thursday evening August 24, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Robinson and Center Church of Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday August 25, 2023 at 11:00 am at Robinson and Center Church of Christ, 1505 Robinson Avenue, Conway, AR, 72034
