William F. Paterson was born February 27, 1923 in Cresson, Pennsylvania and passed away July 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 92. Known as Bill to family, friends and colleagues, he will be remembered for his humor, his readiness to lend a helping hand, his love of family, his warm friendship and his work ethic. He served proudly in the Army-Air Force during World War II as a navigator, which resulted in a life-long love of flying and interest in planes.
After graduating from Penn State as a chemical and electrical engineer, he worked for Sprague Electric; then for 30 years at RCA in the semi-conductor and transistor industry. He traveled widely including trips to Europe, Japan and South America. He loved travel, photography, history, reading, swimming, golf, bridge and, in later years, birding. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and he was so glad that he and Mary Ann had visited Britain and Scotland, that for many years a large map of their route graced the den of their home.
He believed in “see America first” and the family made many road trips. He and Mary Ann continued to see America after the children left home. But they also enjoyed travel overseas and over the years had the good fortune to visit France, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Albert and Helen Garrow Harvey Paterson. William is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Ann Paterson of Montgomery, Texas; his children: Martha Giani and husband Ajit of Houston, Texas, Mary Elizabeth Paterson of Montgomery, Texas and John Curtis Paterson and wife Lydia of Kings Park, New York; sister, Janet Shields and husband Robert of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren: Rachel Giani and husband Matthew Sherrill, Matthew Giani and wife Shadi, Courtney Paterson and Danielle Paterson; and great grandchildren: Lotus Giani-Sherrill, Maxwell Giani-Sherrill and Clara Giani. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 3pm in the Cashner Colonial Chapel, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice. He will be greatly missed and will stay in our hearts always. To leave written tributes for the family visit our website at www.cashnerconroe.com.
