Wendy Jackson

Wendy Bruha Jackson was born on December 31st, 1954 in Houston, Texas and passed away suddenly on June 29, 2016, surrounded by family. Wendy grew up in Metairie, Louisiana and after school stayed in the New Orleans area where she met and married her greatest love, her husband Roland. They lived together in many different countries, but made their home in Conroe, Texas. An expert in the art of micromanagement, Wendy was always happy to “show a little trick” to anyone brave enough to help her in the kitchen. She loved baking biscuits and her grandmother’s cinnamon rolls with her grandchildren. That is, when she wasn’t creating jaw dropping and delectable dinners for family, friends and guests. Wendy especially enjoyed warm crusty bread with lots of softened butter and sharing and having good wine with good friends. She was the consummate hostess. Wendy could rarely be found in her office (yes, she actually had one) as she was usually wandering around her backyard flower beds and vegetable gardens. She loved to have coffee in the morning on the back patio with her golden retriever Annie, both surveying the beautiful landscapes they worked in partnership to create. Wendy also loved a good book and could spend days reading if she found just the right one. The easiest way to tell when she was deep into a book was hearing Roland remark on the lack of available warm meals at home. She loved to travel and took pride in being strong and independent. Some of her favorite travels took her to Scotland, France, Finland, Brazil, Argentina and Russia, where she fell in love with the Hermitage. Wendy always had a special place in her heart for New Orleans, where she spent many Fridays having long lunches at Galatoire’s with her favorite person. She also loved being part of the Conroe community and traveling into Houston to visit the museums or have celebrations at Brennan’s. Wendy did not like being told what she should or could not do and always proved the naysayers wrong. She was strong, kind, selfless, classy, beautiful, inclusive, gracious and warm. She was also feisty, bossy, strongly opinionated and wonderful. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her and we will do our best to take everything she has given us and pass it on to others. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Thomas Roland Jackson. Her parents Joanne and William “Bill” Bruha of Spring, TX her children Karina Jackson Engert (Warren) of New Orleans, LA, Anna Jackson Sides (Terry) of Lucas, TX, William “Bill” Jackson of Conroe, TX, and Rebecca “Becky” Jackson Flechsig (Seth) of Houston, TX. Grandchildren Ashley Engert, Gabriella Sides, Grayson Sides, Elle Jackson, Landon Ruth Flechsig, William Flechsig and Julius “Jude” Jackson. Her dear sisters Linda Alford, Cathy Crowther (Chuck), Nancy Collins (Ron), Heidi Carney (Steve) and her brothers Scott Bruha (Patty) and Gregg Bruha (Laura). Sister-in-law Julia Jackson (Stan). Numerous and well-loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Numerous and well-loved cousins. Dear friends who were like sisters to her, and three very special Great Aunts. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Ruth & Theodore Kochinski and Mable & Charles Bruha, her niece Amanda Alford, her mother and father-in-law Joy and Julius Jackson, her brothers-in-law Franklin Ronald Jackson & Rodney Bruce Jackson. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Wendy’s name to the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition (2257 N Loop 336 Suite 140363, Conroe, TX 77304) or (for fellow lovers of plants and gardens) the American Honeybee Protection Agency (www.honeybeekind.org). A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Cashner Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5-7pm and the Celebration Ceremony beginning at 7pm.
