Walter served in the United States Marines in combat during World War II in the Pacific Theatre on the island of Palau. He was honorably discharged after serving in the United States Marines. He attended the University of Houston after his service to his country. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Conroe, an avid golfer and loved to watch basketball.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Ann Rogers, his parents Walter and Lillie Rogers and sister Bonnie Ruth Rogers Thompson, half brothers Carl Wayne McDougald, Joe Dan McDougald, and James "Jimmie" McDougald, and stepfather Carl McDougald. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to his caregivers Judi Self and Teresa Griffin and everyone from his hospice care team.
A visitation will occur on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. Funeral services for Walter are planned for Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe.
