Velma Lucille Byrd, 91, of Conroe, was reunited with her Lord on July 14, 2010. Velma was born to James Henry and Lou Ethel Guthrie on December 18, 1918, in Kerrville, Texas. Everybody called her Grandma. She was a lady who walked by Faith. She was a loving mother, and Grandma to five generations of great grandchildren. Grandma was a longtime member of Open Range Cowboy Church. In 1974, she lost the love of her life, James Ambers Byrd, Sr., after 36 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her children, Erna Bell Byrd, James Ambers Byrd, Jr., Deloris Byrd, Joyce Ann Byrd Hughes, Jay Ray Byrd and John Lewis Byrd. Velma is survived by her children, Russell Loring Byrd, Bonnie Ruth Byrd Hensley, Robert Byrd, Lee Roy Byrd, Velta Glen Byrd, Ima Fay Byrd, Velma Annie Byrd, and Lisa Annette Byrd; her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Open Range Cowboy Church, in Conroe, Texas with Rev. Jesse Pruitt officiating.
