Theodore (Ted) Purcell passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the age of 90. He was born on August 20, 1924, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey and spent his formative years in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He graduated from Bloomfield High School where he was Captain of the fencing team. Ted served with the 10th Mountain Division of the Army, in Italy during, World War II. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Seton Hall University and went on to successful career in the oil and gas industry, ultimately retiring from the Shell Oil Company. He was a resident of The Woodlands since the 1980’s.
Ted was the devoted husband of Gloria Purcell until her death in 1992. They raised three children and he is survived by his daughter Jean, his son Michael, and granddaughter Amy and his grandson Justin. He is also survived by a nephew and a niece. He was an avid tennis player and played regularly at the Woodlands Country Club until age 80. Ted was also an enthusiastic Bridge player until age 85.
Ted was a dedicated father to his children and a caring and committed grandfather. He was an engaging conversationalist and able to contribute meaningfully to discussions on wide range of topics. His sense of humor is legendary among his friends and family. Those who knew him well are grateful for his having enhanced their lives for as long as he has.
A celebration of Ted’s life will be held at Cashner Funeral Home in the Cashner Colonial Chapel, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303, on Thursday, February 5th at 12:30 pm.
