Ted was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Acton & Irene Mathis. Ted was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Inez Enderli Mathis, on June 10, 1960 in North Shore, Texas. After moving to Conroe, Texas in 1970, Ted opened his own insurance agency and then brought four successful convenient stores to the area beginning in 1984. You will remember them as Pit Stop Food Marts- they were your hometown quick-stop for over 25 years.
Ted is survived by his wife, Inez; his son Teddy; his daughters Loretta Cartwright and Marlene Stubler; his grandchildren Gentra Cartwright, Alexis Tower, Morgan Cartwright, Mason Mathis, Maggie Stubler, Jackson Stubler and Journey Mathis; his great-grand-daughter Tenlee Tower; his brothers, Don and Jimmy Mathis; and his sisters Patsy Hunter, Belinda Brown and Janice French. His family will remember him as a driven man who always encouraged them to pursue their dreams and goals. Ted always showed unwavering support to his children and grandchildren with their livestock projects; he also had a deep love for the outdoors and hunting.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ted's life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Metcalf Funeral Home at 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304. Ted will be laid to rest at the Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery with a reception to follow at Mims Baptist Church.
