Steven Russell Edgmon of Conroe Texas, born in Corpus Christi, Texas April 18, 1939, devoted husband and father, died July 19, 2020. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Buford Russell Edgmon and Katherine Helms Edgmon. He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Jo Anne Apostolo Edgmon, brother John William Edgmon and wife Nancy of Conroe, sister Rebecca Edgmon Allen and husband Gene of San Antonio, son John Mark Edgmon and wife Theodora of San Antonio, and son Peter Russell Edgmon and wife Melissa of Sugar Land. His grandchildren Benjamin Edgmon, Luke Edgmon, Daniel Edgmon, Katherine Edgmon and Emma Edgmon.
Steve graduated from Conroe High School in 1957. After a false start at Texas A&M he enlisted in the Navy serving four years. He married Jo Anne in 1963 and received his degree in accounting from Sam Houston State in 1965.
After discovering the oilfield roustabouts were making more money than his cohorts at the bank, he went to work in the Grangerland oil and gas fields and worked there until his retirement as plant manager for Union Pacific Resources (later Anadarko).
Steve liked to do things well. He loved to fish and was one of the first and most respected pro guides on Lake Conroe for many years. He was good with a shotgun - running 100 straight with a 410 in competition when in his late 40s.
Steve was gentle, soft-spoken, kind and a patient instructor to his sons learning to cast a line or lead a dove or clay target. Almost without exception everyone that met Steve loved him.
He packed a lot into his 10 years or so, after early retirement at age 58. His stroke, at age 68, was frustrating at times, but Steve faced his new normal with good cheer with Jo Anne’s unfailing love and care.
