On May 5th, 2020, Gary Stephen Neff, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 65. Steve was born on November 27th, 1954 to Dr. Jim and Bobbie Neff in Kirbyville, Texas, but he did not arrive alone. He often reminded his family that he was the “younger” twin to his brother Jerry.
As a pastor’s son, he moved around until settling in Pasadena, Texas with his family. It was at the church his father preached at that he would meet his future wife, Doris; only 11 years old at the time. Seven years later, they married on June 28th, 1980 and had two children, Ashley and Zachary.
Steve was a man of faith above all else. He loved music and singing, laughing and telling jokes, golfing, riding his motorcycle, visiting with family and cooking. Often, he could be found sitting on a porch appreciating the beauty and sounds of nature. He believed in joy, integrity, cultivating relationships and the simple things in life. He reminded us all with his actions to be humble and kind and love unconditionally.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Jim and Bobbie Neff, and his brothers, Mark and Michael Neff. He is survived by his wife Doris Neff, his children Zachary Neff and Ashley Brayton, his son in law Andrew Brayton and grandson’s, Cameron, Ian and Talon, his brothers Dr. Jerry Neff and Jim Neff, sister in law Laura Neff, his mother in law Joyce Custer and many loving nieces and nephews. Due to COVID-19 a memorial service will be held at a later date.
