Steven Victor Ames was born 10/28/1953 in Houston, Texas to Edna and Vaud Ames. He was their only child. He is survived by his dear mother Edna Ames (96), daughters Cheri Ames and Casey Dickerson, his grandchildren Caleb and Joshua Dickerson, and wife Yanny Gomez.
The Lord took him home to heaven at 11:15 am on Monday, September 13, 2021. He fought a courageous battle against Covid-19 for one month at St. Luke's Hospital in the Woodlands, Texas. Chaplain Anne and Casey prayed for the Lord to hold his hand as he took his last breath on earth.
Steve was born a baby boomer to very excited parents. He was their miracle baby, as they tried to get pregnant for seven years before he was born. He grew up in Big Spring, Texas where he loved playing baseball. From a young age, he always wanted to be a professional baseball player. He always loved fast "muscle" cars and faster boats.
He retired from his position at Nalco, after 30+ years with the company. He was a very hard worker that never called in sick, nor took vacations.
He loved the water so much that he wanted to retire near the lake. You might have even seen him cruising Lake Conroe a few months ago. You would have definitely seen him every evening near the boat dock with his fellow Sunsetters. He remained an avid sports fan his whole life and enjoyed attending Astros games with his best friend, Mike Wilson.
Steve will be missed by everyone that knew him. He had a kind, gentle spirit and a funny sense of humor. He was a very loyal son that took care of his live-in mom until the day he was taken to the hospital.
Cheri and Casey will miss and love him more than he will ever know.
We ask that donations and support go out to local ICU doctors and nurses and Covid-19 research. Our hopes are that everyone will continue to be safe and precautious regarding this terrible virus and get vaccinated as quickly as possible.
A memorial visitation for Steve will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304.
