Sarita Ann Seward Hudson was called to Heaven on Thursday, June 15, 2023, after a valiant fight against pneumonia. Her beloved daughters, sons-in-law, grandsons, sisters, and companion, Andy Gaydos, were by her side during her illness.
Born in Mercedes, Texas, on June 26, 1938, to Gertrude and Willis Joseph Seward, Sarita spent her early life in La Feria, Texas. She graduated from La Feria High School where she was a cheerleader, a majorette, and a member of the marching band. There, she met and married Gerald “Buzz” Hudson in 1954. Sarita was extremely proud of their four children; Ken, Rita, Iris, and Lori.
The family moved to Austin, Texas in the late 1960’s, and there, Sarita embarked on her commercial real estate career, with the distinction of being one of the first female commercial agents in the city. During this time, she also pursued her love of politics and worked for the Speaker of the Texas House, and, as a regional campaign manager for Bill Clement’s successful bid to become governor.
Sarita moved to Houston, Texas in 1978 and enjoyed an active social life and her favorite hobbies; golf and travel. By the mid 1980’s, she enrolled at the University of Houston, earned her real estate brokerage license, and was even elected Vice President of the student body at 48 years of age.
Beyond these accomplishments, Sarita, most all, valued her faith in God and her deep love of family. She leaves us all a great legacy of devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; her joy for life and living it to its fullest; and for her unquenchable spirit of courage and optimism that never waned.
Sarita is survived by her three daughters, Rita Spears and husband Ted, Iris Moore and husband Ardon, Lori Smith and husband Roy. Her grandchildren Ladd Spears, Luke Spears and wife Kayla, Tucker Moore and wife Staley, Hudson Moore and wife Sarah, Preston Moore and wife Mackenzie, Erin Fusfield and husband Gary, Sarah Estes, Rebekah Ohana and husband Donny, John Michael Estes and wife Katelynn, Benjamin Estes and wife Tory, Hope Hunter and husband Clifford, Grace Anderson and husband Levi.
She is also survived by sisters Jeanne Seward, Molly Scott, Susan Holland and husband Phillip, Dollye Lee, and brother Danny Seward, as well as extended family, Donna Steuver, nineteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving companion Andy Gaydos.
Sarita is preceded in death by her beloved son Kenneth Hudson, her beloved parents Gertrude and Willis Seward, and her beloved brother Stanley Seward.
A private rosary, visitation and a funeral Mass will be held for Sarita, family, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Conroe, Texas, in her memory.
