Sam graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1952 and went on to attend the University of Houston. As a teenager he worked alongside his father & learned electrical work & carpentry and went to work for WS Bellows in 1957 as an apprentice carpenter & joined the carpenters union.
On July 14, 1961 he married Fayrene Lock and they moved to Colorado the following year. He worked for Carl’s Shoes until he went back to work in construction with Werner Herbison Construction Company. When he and his family returned to Houston in 1974 he returned to WS Bellows until he took a job at Spaw Glass, where he worked until he retired.
Sam was a loving & devoted husband & father. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, & the Astros, but above all else, his family. He was strong and fearless but gentle and loving and he taught us to value family, keep our commitments & enjoy life. He was an active member of the Masonic lodge for 65 years. He was raised to Master Mason in 1957, served as Worshipful Master in 1972 and awarded the 50 year pin in 2008.
He is preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Fayrene Wilson, Parents Leroy & Ruth Wilson, Sisters Margaret Schwartz, Charlene Dewberry, & Sheree Wilson, and brother Robert Wilson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Deborah Dorris of Friendswood, TX, Rose Weipert & husband Ken of Randleman, NC, Michael Wilson & wife Vanessa of The Woodlands, TX, Kevin Wilson of Vancouver, WA, & Brenda Wilson of Conroe, TX; his grandchildren, Sabrina & Joann Basquez, Briana McCranie, Taylor & Kelsey Brookshier, Mason, Lincoln, Ellison, Declan & Quenton Wilson; & numerous other family & friends. His life was full. His memory is a blessing to us all.
