Rose (Granny) Golden lived her early years in Spring, Texas where she helped raise her siblings and other relatives. Rose met the love of her life, John Wesley Golden, and they married on March 9, 1940; living on what is now Golden Road. They were married for 35 wonderful years, raising 6 children, before he passed away in January of 1975. Granny then learned to drive and became the Rambling Rose; living in Romayor and Woodville, Texas and frequently traveling to visit family and friends. Granny had few ‘official’ jobs but she could do anything from skinning squirrels to quilting and of course, cooking for large gatherings of family and friends. By far, her most important and most loved job was being a caregiver to everyone she met. Her family was her priority and she loved taking care of others. Whether they called her Momma, Granny, or Aunt Rose…whether related by blood, marriage, or everlasting friendship… everyone that she came in contact with, became “her’s" and a part of the family. Granny touched many, many lives.
Rose is preceded death by her parents; her husband, Johnny Golden; and all of her children: Joe “Pete” Golden, Margie Cofer, John Golden, Rosemary “Sister” Piske, Donnie Golden, and Babe Henry Golden.
She is survived by numerous loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren as well as countless nieces and nephews. The family is eternally grateful to the staff at Conroe Healthcare Center for their love and dedication to Granny this past year. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Metcalf Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in the Woodlands, Texas.
